HoverNotes Works in Brave

Take video notes in the Brave browser — one quick setting and you're ready.

HoverNotes now fully supports Brave. Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store, enable one browser setting, and your video notes save straight to your Obsidian vault — local-first, just like in Chrome.

Set up HoverNotes in Brave

Three steps, about a minute:

  1. 1.Install the HoverNotes extension from the Chrome Web Store — Brave installs Chrome extensions natively.
  2. 2.Copy this address into your Brave address bar and set File System Access API to Enabled:
    brave://flags/#file-system-access-api

    Brave doesn't let websites open brave:// links, so you'll need to copy and paste it.

  3. 3.Click Relaunch when Brave asks. That's it — open any video and start taking notes.

Why is the setting needed?

Brave ships with the File System Access API turned off by default. HoverNotes uses that API to save notes and screenshots directly into your Obsidian vault on your computer — no cloud copy — so it needs the API enabled, exactly as it works in Chrome.
