Transforming video learning into permanent knowledge, one note at a time.
HoverNotes exists to solve a fundamental problem: video knowledge is temporary, but your learning shouldn't be. We transform videos into permanent notes in your Obsidian vault, ensuring that what you learn today remains accessible tomorrow.
HoverNotes was born from my personal struggle during the covid 19 pandemic in 2020. As universities moved online, I found myself drowning in video lectures, unable to keep my eyes open or write fast enough to capture all the information.
My first solution was surprisingly manual – I would screenshot frames from videos, compile them into documents, and create study materials I could actually use. It worked, but it was incredibly time-consuming.
When LLMs emerged, specifically GPT3.5 in March 2022, I immediately saw their potential for this problem. I built early prototypes that could generate notes from videos in real-time, but faced skepticism when pitching the idea. I kept refining the concept even when others didn't see its potential.
As AI models advanced, my vision became increasingly viable – a tool that could watch alongside you, understand both visual and audio content, and create meaningful, easy-to-read notes that would remain accessible long after the video ended.
HoverNotes was created with a simple philosophy: your knowledge belongs to you.
While other tools focus on cloud storage and flashcards, HoverNotes is built around three core principles:
Your notes and screenshots save directly to your Obsidian vault, not our servers. This isn't just about privacy—it's about ownership.
We don't just create notes; we help you build a connected knowledge system where video learning becomes part of your broader understanding.
Our AI doesn't just read transcripts—it watches videos in real-time, capturing both visual elements and audio explanations as they happen.
Coding has always been my medium of expression. When I first learned C programming in university in 2017, I knew I had found my calling—a way to express my vision for the world and bring ideas to life.
I've learned most of what I know from videos—tutorials, lectures, and courses that opened new worlds of possibility. But I always faced the frustration of knowledge slipping away once the video ended.
Building HoverNotes isn't just about solving my own problem. It's about empowering others to learn more effectively from the vast ocean of video knowledge available today. It's about ensuring that valuable insights don't disappear after viewing but become part of your permanent knowledge system.
My hope is that HoverNotes helps you learn something that empowers you to affect the world you live in, just as coding empowered me. Because knowledge shouldn't be temporary—it should be yours to retain, build upon, and use to create change.
We believe video learning should be as permanent and useful as text-based learning. Our goal is to make every video you watch a lasting addition to your knowledge vault and mind, not just a temporary experience. We aim to transform how you learn & remember from video content.
HoverNotes is committed to privacy, knowledge ownership, and empowering learners. We never store your content—your knowledge belongs to you.
